Me, I'd be happy if we never had another second-term President in my lifetime. They get up to too much mischief.
DETROIT — A federal judge on Tuesday gutted the government’s case against seven members of a Michigan militia, dismissing the most serious charges in an extraordinary defeat for federal authorities who insisted they had captured homegrown rural extremists poised for war.
U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts said the members’ expressed hatred of law enforcement didn’t amount to a conspiracy to rebel against the government. The FBI had secretly planted an informant and an FBI agent inside the Hutaree militia starting in 2008 to collect hours of anti-government audio and video that became the cornerstone of the case.
A person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity and who is attacked in any other place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felonyFurther, Zimmerman could have been arrested if the investigating officers had probable cause to believe Zimmerman had not acted within the above statute:
Here is a side by side of 'white' Zimmerman and Martin:(2) A law enforcement agency may use standard procedures for investigating the use of force as described in subsection (1), but the agency may not arrest the person for using force unless it determines that there is probable cause that the force that was used was unlawful.
I have been subbing this week at my children's school. This morning I got ready and E(my 8 year old)asks me "where's your gun?". I tell her the law does not allow me to carry my gun into a school. "But what if a bad guy comes in?" "Who will stop him?" "A good guy, should be able to have a gun."Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is.
I thought, well she understands this and while I know she is very smart, I would think the folks who make the laws, in theory, should be smarter. They should be able to put the pieces together and come to the same conclusion.
I really like this part of the story:The proposal does not require these changes. Rather, it uses a carrot-and-stick approach by offering grants to states that comply early on and withholding highway funding to states that hold out.
"This legislation will give young drivers better education and more experience before they get out on the roads, keeping us all safer and saving lives," Gillibrand said in a written statement.
The proposal could run into objections from states' rights advocates, as well as lawmakers in rural states where the teenage driving laws tend to be less stringent.
This is nothing more than the insurance industry trying to protect it's bottom line. I generally don't have a problem with that unless you are using the power of the legislature to do it.Allstate, though, released a statement praising the bill and claiming it would save lives."Car crashes are the leading cause of death for young drivers, and we have a real opportunity to enact legislation that can help make our roads safer," the national insurer said in the statement. "This is a bipartisan issue that affects American families across the country."
...I don’t want to hear it any more from either side. You want to stop the government from doing things you don’t like, stop giving them the power to do it. Sure, life would be all peaches and unicorns if we could stop the gays from marrying / provide free medical care / send every child to Disney World / ad nauseam, ad infinitum. But if you truly believe in something, then get out there and do it yourself. Stop believing that simply walking into a voting booth once every few years and punching the X for “your team” is all that’s required to get shit done. Because each time you tell a misrepresentative that yes, you would like them to be able to control the other side, eventually that other side gets their turn on The Levers of Making You Do Shit.
Major General Mark Gurganus later said he gave the order because Afghan troops attending the talk were unarmed and he wanted the policy to be consistent for all.So show the world that you don't trust your own troops. That will inspire fear in the enemy.
I completely, 100% agree with her.“He and every other man should not be telling women what arousal is acceptable and what is not. That's pretty irresponsible. No one should be concerned about a consensual relationship between a submissive and a dominant. The realm of fantasy is just that — fantasy.
“In this book,” Wakeman continued, “the protagonist may be naive and young, but those qualities alone don't mean she isn't following her sexual desires in the bedroom. BDSM relationships could not be farther from domestic and sexual abuse: people who practice it follow the rules that everything they do will be safe, sane and consensual."
Updated at 6:21 p.m. ET: JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The head of a private high school was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon by a teacher who had been fired earlier in the day, NBC News reported. It should be obvious to anyone who knows anything about guns that this was probably not an actual AK-47. There there is this:
Police said a man came onto campus of Episcopal School of Jacksonville with an AK-47 in a guitar case, went to the administrative office, shot the head of the school several times, and then killed himself, according to WJXT-TV in Jacksonville, Fla.
Witnesses said they heard seven or eight shots fired in or near the administrative office.
A citizen may not be required to offer a ―good and substantial reason‖ why he should be permitted to exercise his rights. The right‘s existence is all the reason he needs.
