Guns aren't allowed in schools:

Updated at 6:21 p.m. ET: JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  -- The head of a private high school was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon by a teacher who had been fired earlier in the day, NBC News reported.

Police said a man came onto campus of Episcopal School of Jacksonville with an AK-47 in a guitar case, went to the administrative office, shot the head of the school several times, and then killed himself, according to WJXT-TV in Jacksonville, Fla.
It should be obvious to anyone who knows anything about guns that this was probably not an actual AK-47.  There there is this:

Witnesses said they heard seven or eight shots fired in or near the administrative office.

Kind of makes calls for a return of the Guns That Look Scary Assault Weapons ban would have kind of been pointless.  That damn thing wouldn't have been less deadly with a ten round magazine or any of the other silly as features.

It is pathetically sad that the only people stopped from carrying guns into gun free zones are those who would obey the law, and that those who intend harm waltz right into a place where everyone else is banned from any effective means of self defense.

I have no doubt you are both correct. I bet they'll even use this as an example of why teachers shouldn't be allowed to go armed.
