A picture is worth a thousand words.

According to the National Weather Service there were 13 tornadoes in Alabama on April 27, 2011.

Photos of the aftermath are here.

Edited to add:

Donations can be made to Hands On Birmingham or The American Red Cross is also taking donations.  There are a LOT of local efforts going on.  Information on those can be found here.

Wow.

Is there a local relief organization we can donate to? I'll put a link up, for whatever good it will do.

I put a couple of links up. Hands On Birmingham seems to be the only local organization set up to take donations from out of the area.
